LAST MINUTE OPPORTUNITY FOR MIDDLE EAST TRAVEL! There are ten spaces still open for "Places, People, & Prayers: 2009," a Middle East study tour to be offered in conjunction with Eastern Mennonite Seminary (with or without seminary credit) from April 30-May 23, 2009. This tour is a rich offering of opportunities to see the biblical sights (Places), to speak with Palestinians and Israelis about the world they live in (People), and to worship together as a group and with local Christians and Jews (Prayers). Tour co-leaders are Dr. Dorothy Jean Weaver, Professor of New Testament, EMS, and Rev. Kevin A. Clark, Seminary Campus Pastor, EMS. "Places, People, & Prayers: 2009" is open to all interested persons on a first-come, first-served basis (maximum group size, including tour leaders, will be 26). If interested, please contact Dorothy Jean Weaver by January 25 for further information and to reserve your spot.

Staff at WHSV-TV (Channel 3) have confirmed that a documentary on addictions produced by Mennonite Media, "Finding Hope in Recovery: Families Living With Addiction" will air Sunday, Jan. 18 at 1:00 p.m. The program includes a family from Harrisonburg. You can also order a DVD copy from 800-999-3534 for $24.95.

Shane Hipps speaks on "The Spirituality of the Cell Phone" on Tue., Jan. 20 at 7:00 p.m. in the EMU Lehman Auditorium. This presentation explores the hidden spirituality of the digital age, the way it shapes community, and what we can do about it. Following in Common Grounds at 8:30 pm there will be a talk back with Shane Hipps. At both events the public is invited. Youth and youth workers are invited to attend a special presentation on Wed., Jan. 21 at 7 p.m. at the Park View Mennonite Church Fellowship Hall. Refreshments will be provided.



Prayers and Praises

MMN: Pray for the Radical Journey team in Paraguay in language study and personal formation, building cross-cultural relationships and helping to prepare for Mennonite World Conference in July.

VMM: There is a small group of believers meeting for worship in Old Harbor, Jamaica. The Jamaica Mennonite Church will include this group into their next conference in the next months. Pray for leadership persons to be identified to serve this group.

Pray for the local services for people in need: Love Inc., Shelter for Help in Emergency, Food Bank, Salvation Army, IMPACT--a justice ministry and PACEM-- the initiative for the homeless.
