Join in a church night out! Informal! Fun! Good Food!
Would you (18 and older) like to join in a meal out at Elle's Grill (a small restaurant in Woodbrook shopping center) for Charlottesville Mennonite Church people on Sunday evening, February 12th at 6pm? If twelve or more people can attend, the owners are willing to open up the restaurant just for us to serve a buffet meal with salad, entree, and dessert. 2006 MCC Turkey Canning is scheduled for February 27-March 3 at the Mennonite Relief Center, Hinton, VA.Virginia Mennonite Conference is responsible to provide help on Tuesday, February 28. Help is needed from 5 a.m. until 11 p.m. each day. Friday, March 3 is scheduled as a community day and help is needed especially in the early morning. Anyone is welcome to come and help on any day! Funds are needed to purchase turkey for processing and for the ongoing operation of the Relief Center. Saturday, April 1, Lunasa, an Irish music quintet, will present a program at the Eastern Mennonite School Auditorium. One reviewer said of the group, "An amazing new instrumental quintet: state-of-the-art Irish music as aggressively infectious as you¹ll ever hear." Eastern Mennonite High School will be hosting Jeff Wright for the annual Kennel-Charles lecture on Monday February 13, at 7:00 in the auditorium. Jeff is the conference minister of the Pacific Southwest Mennonite Conference, director for the Center for Anabaptist Leadership, and serves in Mennonite Church USA as an Urban Ministry Director for Southern California with Mennonite Mission Network. He will be speaking on "My View of Mennonite Church USA from Southern California," sharing his insights about the church gained from working in Los Angeles and the surrounding area.

Prayers and Praises

VMBM: Pray for the change in Kosova, especially as the new leader relates to the Christian church in that country. Religious freedom is an issue. Also pray that many young believers will stand strong in this difficult time.

Mennonite Mission Network: Pray for SOOP (Service Opportunities for Older People) participants in Tucson, Arizona, serving in low-income home repair, at a peace center, local food banks, schools and homeless shelters.

Pray for the local services for people in need: Love Inc., Shelter for Help in Emergency, Food Bank, Salvation Army, IMPACT--a justice ministry and PACEM-- the initiative for the homeless.

~ The four hostages in Iraq who are from Christian Peacemaker Team, their families, their support teams (Tom Fox has informal connections to Northern Virginia Mennonite Church), CPT leadership Carol Rose and Doug Pritchard, the hostage takers, the negotiators and everyone who is involved and affected by this.
