Announcements

A special thank you to the Youth, Libby, Steve and Lois, and Junior Youth for all their hard work to make the Valentine's Dinner a success. Thanks also to all who contributed to the Youth Fund for Charlotte 2005 either through attending, donating items to the Silent Auction, and/or purchasing them.

It's time once again to place a Fair Trade/Equal Exchange Coffee, Tea, and Cocoa order. Order forms are available by the mailboxes. Please have all orders to Jeannine by Sunday, February 20. (This is a week later than originally stated.)

Why attend Charlotte 2005? To worship God with 8,000-10,000 other Mennonites and experience a deeper commitment to Jesus Christ and his church. People of all ages are invited. Mark your calendar now for July 4-9, 2005

Mark your calendar for our annual church retreat at Camp Bethel on June 3-5, 2005. Come and gather for some fun and fellowship, all expenses paid for by the church. More information later.

Anne Dickey will replace Dottie Scott as the advocate for Mennonite Mutual Aid for our congregation, effective immediately. The MMA advocate processes the requests for sharing grant funds, matched by the congregation, that are available from MMA for a variety of financial needs within the congregation. The advocate can also link members of our church family to the representatives from MMA who can provide information on MMA products. Our congregation received in December, a matching grant from MMA, which will replace some funds used by our brotherhood fund to address a need. Please see Anne if you have questions.

Charlottesville Friends Meeting will be holding a potluck lunch and workshop. On Sunday, Feb. 20, David Radcliff, a dynamic speaker and director of the New Community Project, will lead a discussion of the place of Christian witness in a powerful nation. The potluck begins at 12:30 and the workshop will be from 1:15-3:00.

31st annual MCC Turkey Canning Project, February 28- March 4, at the Mennonite Relief Center in Hinton, Va. The MRC hours of operation are 5 a.m.-11 p.m., and anyone is welcome to help on any day with the canning. Contributions can be mailed to Mennonite Relief Center, PO Box 519, Dayton, VA 22821. For more information, contact Leon Rhodes at (540) 867-9751 or Gerald Knicely at (540) 879-2077.

Prayers and Praises

Mennonite Mission Network: Mission worker Anne Garber Kompaorè, Burkina Paso, asks prayer for the Sicite literacy work in villages, many where there is no Christian presence. The second year students are introduced to scripture reading. Pray that the Lord will provide resources for this wonderful opportunity for the language development of the Sicite people.

VMBM: Paul and Esther Kniss thank God, the wonderful Healer, for Esther's miraculous recovery and the opportunity for them to return to Trinidad on February 15. They will nurture and encourage the Hope Mennonite Church in Esperanza, a young congregation that is growing in numbers and discipleship. Their plan is to return to Virginia at the end of March.

Pray for the local services for people in need: Love Inc., Shelter for Help in Emergency, Food Bank, Salvation Army, and the initiative for the homeless in Charlottesville.

Pray for those within our CMC family:
~ Matt Nissley and his YES team in Peru.
~ Jeff Myers' father as he is battling cancer.
~ Those devastated by the Tsunami in Asia and Africa.
