August 26, 2007 - Life lines: Faithfulness and Formation

Gathering in Christ's name

Pre-service Music
Call to Worship Psalm 27:1; 5-6; 13-14
Leader: The Lord is my light and my salvation
People: whom shall I fear?
Leader: The Lord is the stronghold of my life
People: Of whom shall I be afraid?
Leader: For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his
dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his tabernacle
and set me high upon a rock.
People: Then my head will be exalted above the enemies who surround me; at his tabernacle will I sacrifice with shouts of joy; I will sing and make music to the Lord.
All: I am still confident of this:
I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.

Leader: Wait for the Lord;
be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.

This fall we are planning to hold our informal fall potlucks again. We are currently looking for people who would be willing to host 6-10 people at their home for a potluck. Please contact Maren or Roy if you are interested in being a host.

Last week concluded our churches service in the Salvation Army soup kitchen on Thursday evenings. Thank you to all who were involved.

Prayers and Praises

Mennonite Mission Network: An annual retreat for students of Instituto Bíblico Anabautista will be held Aug. 31-Sept. 3 in Talladega, Ala. Pray for wisdom for Marvin Lorenzana as he leads the workshops and that the students will be rejuvenated for the coming year.

VMM Missions: Hurricane Dean's force took down trees and power lines across Jamaica, and some buildings sustained damage, but the roofs on the buildings at the Maranatha School held tight. Our brothers and sisters there thank us for our prayers, and thank God for taking care of them once again as the hurricane force impacted their lives. Nancy Marshall in Orange Walk, Belize, reports that she and a family of 9 were safe in her house although the wind blew down a large palm tree. She gives thanks that the tree did not damage the house, or the new van which was purchased with Penny Power money! Thank you for standing with our church family in these places.

Pray for the local services for people in need: Love Inc., Shelter for Help in Emergency, Food Bank, Salvation Army, IMPACT--a justice ministry and PACEM-- the initiative for the homeless.
