Lasting Marriage: The Owners' Guide, authored by FLRC counselor Harvey Yoder and newly released by Herald Press: Lasting Marriage is based on the premise that relationships need the same kind of care and maintenance we give any other valued possession, such as a motor vehicle. While we naturally assume our cars will require more, not less, care as they age, we have often not applied that same reasoning to marriage. The book, scheduled for release in May, has three parts, each with six chapters.

I Peter 4:1-19 - A phrasal outline

4:1,2 Arm yourselves with the attitude of Christ who suffered so you life is lived by the will of God not human desires

3,4 You have lived long enough doing what the Gentiles do
and they are surprised you do not still join them

5-6 judgement is for the sake of being alive in the Spirit

4:7-9 The end is near so discipline yourselves by
maintaing constant love
being hospitable

10-11as stewards of God's grace
serve one another with your gifts and
speak as with the very words of God
serve with the strength God supplies
so that God may be glorified in all things

4:12-13 Do not be surprised by suffering but rejoice
that you are sharing in Christ's suffering and rejoice
when his glory is revealed

14 If you are reviled you are blessed because the spirit of
glory which is the Spirit of God is resting on you

15-16 do not suffer as a criminal but if you suffer as a
Christian it is not a disgrace but glorify God as you
bear his name
17-18 the time has come for judgement to begin
with God's household…what will be the end
for those who do not obey the gospel
19 let those suffering continue to trust God
and do good
