This is a celebration of our commitment to Christ and one another as a church during which members also annually renew their church membership. If anyone who is not a member currently is interested in Associate or full membership, please contact the pastors. Like to Sing? Join us for a Hymn Sing next Sunday at 7:00 p.m. at Grete Horst's house (817 Elliott Ave.) Hymnals provided. Instruments welcome. Bring a finger food to share. Save for education: Saving for a child's education is often among parents' biggest concerns. MMA can help with a variety of tools and all of them include investing your money in ways that are in harmony with your ethical beliefs. Barbara Brouse, our MMA advocate, can tell you how to contact an MMA counselor for more information. Registration is now open for "Places, People, & Prayers: 2007," a Middle East study tour to be offered by Eastern Mennonite Seminary from May 4-26, 2007. Tour co-leaders are Dorothy Jean Weaver, Professor of New Testament, and Kevin A. Clark, Instructor of Spiritual Formation. "Places, People, & Prayers: 2007" is open to all interested persons. If interested, please contact Dorothy Jean Weaver. For a trip brochure, go to http://www.emu.edu/seminary/crosscultural/. Registration must be concluded by December 31, 2006. A note on Emailing to the church: The church office attempts to maintain an up to date email list for our church news. For reasons of attempting to avoid spam filter problems the list is divided into three sections. If you attempt to send the whole church an email from the list you received in an email you will probably only be sending your message to a third of the church. This means persons will be left out and your message will not get around. This can be avoided by either having us send your message around or building a complete email list from the phone/email list that we try to update monthly. On Wednesday, October 25th, at 7:00 pm at the Paramount, the Legal Aid Justice Center will be screening the documentary film "Maxed Out," which "...takes us on a journey deep inside the American debt-style, where everything seems okay as long as the minimum monthly payment arrives on time. Maxed Out shows how the modern financial industry really works, explains the true definition of 'preferred customer' and tells us why the poor are getting poorer and the rich getting richer. Visit www.maxedoutmovie.com This is a benefit for the Legal Aid Justice Center. Prayers and PraisesVMBM: The Hickory (N.C.) Hmong Mennonite Church is thriving with the leadership of Chaiya Hadtasunmern. With reduced opportunities for employment in the Hickory area, some of the Hmong families are moving to the Midwest. Pray that they will encounter Christ wherever they live. Mennonite Mission Network: Pray that God will
touch people's lives through the Service Adventure participants in Raleigh,
N.C. - Emily Mishler, Elizabeth Nussbaum and Caitlin Yoder. They work
at Ten Thousand Villages, the YMCA and with Building Together Ministires. Pray for the local services for people in need: Love Inc., Shelter for Help in Emergency, Food Bank, Salvation Army, IMPACT--a justice ministry and PACEM-- the initiative for the homeless.
