IMPACT is a newly formed organization of 20 faith groups in the Charlottesville area created to address serious problems in our community. It includes Caucasian and African American congregations; Protestant, Catholic, Jewish and Unitarian congregations. Through IMPACT we have the opportunity to be involved in responding to God's call to do justice. Our congregation and many others, have traditionally done a lot of mercy (charity) ministries, helping people with direct services such as food, clothing and shelter. Through IMPACT we will be building a justice ministry to look at reasons why people get into a place where they need help. Justice ministry focuses on ensuring fairness in the larger "systems" that affect our lives such as affordable housing, access to healthcare, transportation, etc. One of the steps in building this ministry will be to hold "house meetings" within the congregations to discuss our concerns and the issues that we would like to see addressed. The first house meeting for our congregation is Monday, Aug. 28 at 6:30 pm at the home of Dottie Scott. Anyone who feels they might be interested in this organization is welcome to attend. If you have questions about this, Prayers and PraisesVMBM: As we begin a new school year, "school
