Lent 3: An illuminating Word
Gathering in Christ's name
Call to Worship
Leader: Come, beloved children of God, come worship the Lord.
People: The Lord presents us with a way to live that
revives our souls, makes us wise,
rejoices our hearts, enlightens our eyes.
All: We worship the Lord who teaches us true wisdom.
Leader: Let the words of our mouths and the meditations of
our hearts be acceptable to you, O Lord, our Rock
and our Redeemer. Amen.

Prayer of Confession
Leader: God of wisdom, through Moses,
your faithful servant, you gave us your law:
People: God's law is perfect.
Leader: We disregard your law,
saying it is too difficult to follow in our busy lives.
People: God's commandment is clear.
Leader: We ignore your commandment,
saying it is obsolete and irrelevant for today's world.
People: God's decrees are sure.
Leader: We have disobeyed your decrees,
saying they are foolish according to today's wisdom.
All: In your mercy, forgive us. Amen.
Words of Assurance
Leader: Overturning all worldly wisdom,
God brings saving, renewing power into our lives through the foolishness
of a crucified and resurrected Savior.
Receive God's wisdom and forgiveness.

There have been a number of concerns raised to the Pastoral
Care Team regarding certain after-church behaviors of some of the children
that involve safety issues for both the children and adults. The areas
of concern are:
Chasing and running inside the church building
Climbing on stacked chairs, especially at times of fellowship meals
Sitting on and rocking the radiators
We want to be a child friendly church, but we also do not want equipment
broken, or someone to be knocked down by a "speeding child".
PCT is asking that parents discuss this with their children and ask them
to refrain from these behaviors. Perhaps our church family could assist
parents with this by providing friendly reminders to the children, as
needed.
Prayers and Praises
VMBM James Rhee is giving leadership to the Stephens
City Korean Community Church which meets in the Stephen City (Va.) Mennonite
Church. There is a growing Korean community in the Winchester/Stephens
City area, and a Christian witness is needed. VMBM supports this church-planting
effort in partnership with Virginia Mennonite Conference's Northern District.
Mennonite Mission Network: Mennonite Mission Network
seeks to recruit English teachers for ministry in China, South Korea,
and Mongolia. Pray that God will touch the hearts of people who are willing
to serve in this way in these Asian countries.
Pray for the local services for people in need:
Love Inc., Shelter for Help in Emergency, Food Bank, Salvation Army, IMPACT--a
justice ministry and PACEM-- the initiative for the homeless.
~ The three remaining hostages in Iraq who are
from Christian Peacemaker Team, their families, their support teams, CPT
leadership Carol Rose and Doug Pritchard, the hostage takers, the negotiators
and everyone who is involved and affected by this.
