Epiphany:
Come! Walk in the Light of Day!
January 2, 2005
Gathering in Christ's name
Pre-service Music
Opening Words
Leader: Day has dawned! The light of Christ has come into the world.
People: We see God's radiance in creation and in our lives. We
rejoice in God's boundless riches given to all. We worship and adore our
Savior, Christ the Lord.
All: Come! Walk in the light of day!
Hymn HWB 218 (verses 1-2)
Call to Awaken (adapted from Isaiah 60 and Eph. 3)
Leader: Arise, shine; for your light has come, and the glory of
the Lord has risen upon you. For darkness shall cover the earth, and thick
darkness the peoples; but the Lord will arise upon you, and his glory
will appear over you. Nations will come to your light, and kings to the
brightness of your dawn.
Hymn HWB 218 (verses 3-4)
Leader: Lift up your eyes and look around; the peoples
gather way, and your daughters shall be carried on their
nurses' arms. Then you will see and be radiant; your heart
will thrill and rejoice, because the abundance of the sea will
be brought to you, the wealth of the nations shall come to
you. And we will all proclaim the praise of the Lord.
Hymn HWB 169
Leader: In earlier days, God's mysteries were not known
to humankind, as they have now been revealed. Yes, you,
Gentiles, have become fellow heirs, members of the same
body, and sharers in the promise in Christ Jesus through the
gospel. You are heirs to the boundless riches of Christ.
And so we speak and sing to make everyone see the plan
and the mystery hidden for ages in God who created all
things; that through the church the wisdom of God in tis
richness might now be made known to the rulers and
authorities in the heavenly places. And this we do in
accordance with the eternal prupose that God has carried
out in Christ Jesus our Lord, through whom we can come to
God in boldness and confidence through faith in him.
Arise, shine, for your light has come!
