Unless the LORD builds the house,
those who build it labor in vain.
Unless the LORD guards the city,
the guard keeps watch in vain.

It is in vain that you rise up early
and go late to rest,
eating the bread of anxious toil;
for he gives sleep to his beloved.

The second annual Festival of Praise will be held on Sunday, November 9, 4:00 p.m. at Park View Mennonite Church in Harrisonburg. Participating men's singing groups are: Cantore, EMHS Faculty Men, Eversole Road Quartet, Harrisonburg Mennonite Men's Quartet, Inner Harmony, Singing Men, and Singing Servants. Jay Hartzler will direct the mass choir. The offering will benefit VMBM's pastoral leadership training funds and Norma Teles' children's ministry in Albania.

Leading Christian artist Michael Card will perform at Eastern Mennonite University Sunday, Nov. 9, at 7 p.m. in Lehman Auditorium. His latest album, "A Fragile Stone," is an exploration of the dynamic, contradictory life of the Apostle Peter. After years of careful study of the New Testament, Card has written from the first-person perspective of Peter, detailing the apostle's growing realization that despite his own character flaws, Jesus did and would use Peter to accomplish His purposes.

Beginning January 11 through February 22, 2004 our church (Jr Youth through adults) will embark on a 40 day spiritual journey guided by the book A Purpose Driven Life, deepened in small groups and Sunday School, looking at our lives based on God's eternal purposes. May we prepare ourselves through prayer for this time. "It is in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for." Eph 1:11

Prayers and Praises

VMBM: At the funeral of a ninety-one year old Christian Jamaican woman, six of her granddaughters responded to an invitation to present themselves to Christ and live for Him. Their ages range from sixteen to thirty years. Pray that these young women will have the resolve to follow through with this commitment.

Mennonite Mission Network: Thank God for the cassette recordings of audio scriptures in the Pilagá language that Mission Network workers Byrdalene and Willis Horst distribute to indigenous people in the Argentine Chaco. Pray that the Pilagá people will be open to truth as they hear the scriptures in their heart language.

Pray for the local services for people in need: Love Inc., Shelter for Help in Emergency, Foodbank and the Salvation Army.
