The Rejected Prophets
February 23, 2003

Gathering in Christ's name

Prelude "Love is always following you"-Lenten Theme Song
Call to worship based on Psalm 41

Leader: Happy are those who consider the poor;
the LORD delivers them in the day of trouble.
The LORD protects them and keeps them alive;
they are called happy in the land.
You do not give them up to the will of their enemies.
The LORD sustains them on their sickbed;
in their illness you heal all their infirmities.

ALL: As for us, we said, "O LORD, be gracious to us;
heal us, for we have sinned against you."
Our enemies wonder in malice when we will die,
and our name perish. And when they come to see us,
they utter empty words, while their hearts gather mischief;
when they go out, they tell it abroad.
All who hate us whisper together about us;
they imagine the worst for us.
They think that a deadly thing has fastened on us,
that we will not rise again from where we lie.
Even our bosom friend in whom we trusted,
who ate of our bread, has lifted the heel against us.

Leader: But you, O LORD, be gracious to us, and raise us up,
that we may repay them.
By this we know that you are pleased with us;
because our enemy has not triumphed over us.
But you have upheld us because of our integrity,
and set us in your presence forever.

ALL: Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel,
from everlasting to everlasting. Amen and Amen.
